"I want to make people a bit jealous - so, even when we’re a bit down, we can see that others would love to be where we are, and we stop moaning."

BBC NEWS |Status update: Who cares?

Been having a running conversation about this element of social media a lot lately. Why do we do this self-promotion? To convince ourselves that life is going well? To convince others? To make others feel badly?

I definitely have a few “boasters” on my friend list who’s status messages A) do make me feel crappy about my current situation B) make me realize if I ever was to say in person what they put in a status post would be immediately called-out for being obnoxious and self-centered C) invoke honest jealousy

Was this the intent?

Not sure why I even feel the need to share my daily musings. I feel like a schmuck. Perhaps I like sparking a dialogue or hoping that someone else cares about me and what I am up to or wants to share an experience with me. This is probably the reason why I will never travel completely alone (but if you do Solo Traveler) since I really like having someone to share a travel experiences with me - more important to me than the sights or distance - maybe not the history ;-) )

Could I cut myself off from all the social media/blogs tomorrow? Don’t think so. It’s kind of addicting
