I took Izz for one of my favorite walks today (our route) - the West Side Highway from Jane Street down to Battery Park City (approx.6 miles!) While most of my friends swear by the Great Lawn in Central Park on nice days, I always find the Hudson River Park to be a more enjoyable (and entertaining) destination. Obviously the water (and breeze) is a major draw, but there are ALWAYS plenty of open benches to sit on, fewer tourists and amazing people watching since everyone/everything is in constant motion—bikers, runners, dog walkers, boats. Another reason I really enjoy this walk is that it gives me a chance to explore or re-discover all the little restaurants, quirky monuments etc. that pop up along the way. There are some odd things along the path. The zen garden?
Points of Interest:
- Free Kayaks on the Hudson @ pier 40
- Hudson River Park @ Chambers St.
- Grab a margarita outside by the marina @ SouthWest (there’s also a PJ Clarkes w/ outside dining)
- The Japanese zen garden
On the way back I chose to walk up Washington Street, hopping inland @Laight St. with the sole purpose of checking out that neighborhood (far west TriBeCa)-somewhat unfamiliar territory for me. Definitely an area in transition - sprinkled with galleries, offices in converted warehouses & impressive real estate for sale - but today, completely desolate.
Passed what appears to be a nice French Bistro (a little old school), Capsouto Freres - has anyone tried?
