Over the past year or so I’ve joined/registered so many sites and appropriately amassed an inbox consistently filled with Spam. Though there are filters to keep most of the junk out, last week I began to revisit some of these sites to A)unregister & hopefully reduce spam B) take control and reel in my presence on the internet a bit and C) re-evaluate if or how I can actually use some of these sites, now that many have added widgets/social networking capabilities.
To start, I had to take a little trip down memory lane to even find some of the more obscure registrations. The best method appears to be sorting through old email confirmations and yes, the spam folder. This we will be a process but already I’ve “re-discovered” sites like www.dopplr.com and www.delicious.com that I find entertaining & useful (but only if can get my friends to join along too..eh..hem) and others like www.snooth.com , a wine lovers site - to buy, review and network- that seems great in theory but it was probably a lofty idea that I would ever use it. Though I am sure I will keep trying out new services, gadgets and social endeavors I am certainly more attuned to (and wanting to avoid) the “over connect” aspect of all of this. Addicting yes, but how much is too much?
Psst..come across anything good, send it my way!
